Investing in conservation and renewable resources: The only sustainable future for the world

Tonight I watched a documentary entitled Crude Awakening.  After watching it I find myself irreversably convinced that the current economic downturn will last for at least 10 years, possibly 40-50 if we don't make huge investments in more efficiently using the energy we have and also harvesting renewable sources of energy.  This is due to the fact that we will soon be, if we aren't already are, on the declining side of worldwide oil production.  If you haven't seen Crude Awakening, I recommend you rent it, just be sure to put away the knives and sedatives before you do.

Election Returns Drinking Game

Election returns drinking game rules

Okay, so these rules are in two parts. For the first part, you drink the stated amount for your party, double for the opposite party.

  • 1 for each race called (House, Senate, Dog Catcher, etc.)
  • 1 for each state called (2 if it's a ticket member's home state)
  • 1 for every 10 electoral votes called
  • 1 for each campaign advisor interview
  • 1 for each exit poll with your candidate ahead

The second set is as normal.

Flag Waving Jackass

I was up at Lowes and happened to see this truck in the parking lot.  Apparently the republicans aren't just going after the "Sam's Club" republicans, but all big box retailers.

Justice Breyer?

In case any of you missed it during the final debate, McCain seems a little fuzzy about history.  In last nights debate, this is part of what McCain had to say regarding judicial nominees:

"Senator Obama voted against Justice Breyer and Justice Roberts on the grounds that they didn't meet his ideological standards. That's not the way we should judge these nominees. Elections have consequences. They should be judged on their qualifications. And so that's what I will do."

Not sure how true this is, and that fact alone is pretty bad

My beloved stumble sent me to this article today.  I'm not sure if it's true.  But I do believe that the scenario painted isn't at all unrealistic.  We have seen the willingness of this administration to lie and suspend any semblance of the freedoms that this republic once held dear.  Worse is that people are too distracted by the spectacle of modern life to care.  Too wrapped up in their lives of pure, unadulterated consumerism.

All I can Say is WTF?

The Second Presidential Debate

I'm never excited about presidential debates. They are so phony and staged that I have to restrain myself from hurling my TV out the window. This one was particularily nauseating, but for a different reason. John McCain kept telling one lie after another. The part that really makes me sick is that a large percentage of the voters aren't paying enough attention to notice the outright lies. I'm with Karl Rove on this one. McCain has gone too far!

Voting for third party candidates is against your interest.

Third party candidates have almost no chance of winning in our current election process. I wish they could, I like many third party candidates. But until we have the ability to vote for more than one candidate, it's foolish to cast your vote for someone outside of one of the two major parties. This is because every vote for the third party candidate takes a vote away from the closest major party. This effectively lowers the bar for the other major party. If you are unhappy with the major parties it is incumbent on you to get involved in the party you feel closest to and make your voice heard.
